Week #5 Devlog

Most of the work we've done this week has been in preparation for the next deliverable date (November 1st) and so we don't have much to show right now.  We demoed our game to a TA and received some feedback that we took notes on. We've included the notes below:

TA Feedback Notes

  • If story based, try and put more emphasis on how the story interacts with the switching mechanic
    • One suggestion: photo prompt from the past and then photo prompt from the present of the same item and figuring out what happened to that item
  • The two worlds need to interact with each other more on a story level
  • How do the photos interact with each other and how that relates with the story. Take more advantage of the world swapping mechanic for storytelling in the level
  • Was not immediately obvious that the photos reveal the backstory of the artist
  • Player would like some more initial story (some kind of opening scene to set up the environment and backstory)
  • Taking photos feels satisfying
  • Overlay is good but forces players into thinking they need to perfectly frame the photo (perfect angle) but may not be needed if the photo taking is generous -- especially if it's a story game where we're just trying to capture images and evidence of something. Also distracting visually.
    • Is it helping the player or giving them the answer?
  • Where's Waldo kind of increase in difficulty, trying to find the right location or searching
  • Perspective optical illusion suggestion
  • There should be player feedback when there is something correct (audio/visual feedback etc.)
