Week #8 Devlog


November 16, 2023 - November 22, 2023

This week was spent polishing and finalizing features for the Beta Presentation, as well as starting work on the playtesting reports. Below are our TO DO’s for the week.

Overall

  • In settings menu, add "return to level select" button

Audio

  • Implement audio sfx (Menu)
  • Implement audio sfx (photo album navigation)
  • Correct prompt feedback (Talk with Henry)
  • Watering can sound
  • Growing plant sound

UI

  • Fix UI elements that are absolute position, and make them relative to screen size
    • Aiming the camera (reticle)
    • Taken photo preview
    • Start button on start screen isn't positioned under the text
  • Fix image cropping to be consistent across prompts, taken photos, album photos
  • UI Assets we need from art team (also noted in respective sections)
    • Settings Menu
    • Level Select
  • Level end screen, featuring the ghost name and date of death (add to existing sixth page)
    • Also add level complete text

Prompts

  • Remove filters + add border around uncompleted prompts

Photo Album

  • The description should be from the PoV of the ghost (rewrite prompts)
  • Make it more obvious when a prompt has been completed
    • Similarly, we should update the prompt preview UI to reflected completed
  • Slightly reduce prompt size to fit the “page”

Painter Room

  • Redo last photo
    • Remove lantern in starting room

Architect Room

  • Make x-ray lens smaller and less prominent in the prompts. Experiment with having it not rotate. Disable physics on it
  • Add option to reset x-ray lens, make hint visible in top right corner
  • Make room more spacious
  • Finish importing assets

Botanist Room

  • Integrate sound files + ask for more if needed
  • Fix spawning outside of the level
  • Harass art team to get assets done and then import them
    • Make sure watering can is done before beta
  • Make it obvious the player is holding a watering can
  • Add poisonous smoke particle effects around poisonous plant

Playtesting Report

  • Start rough draft

Post Nov 22 playtest build TODOs

  • quit game on the main menu
  • back to main menu from the level select
  • buttons getting darker or some indication that they're selected on the main menu and the end level screen
    • it's a thing on the level select and the pause menu
  • Improve architect and botanist FTUEs
  • Add UI for all controls within start menu and pause menu
